Features

Design for a live/work building on an infill site adjacent to historic downtown Delray Beach. The building has eight duplex units on the upper floors with retail space below. Each of the living units has the ability to be connected to the retail space below. The building was designed with attention to maximize energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. This was done by reducing heat gain from South Florida’s strong sun by positioning windows primarily to the north, use of sun screens on windows which receive direct sunlight, a photovoltaic electric system, and super insulation of the building envelop. The goal of this project was to demonstrate the economic viability of an environmentally responsible building.
